One Room Challenge - Week One

rheaaligned

Hey ya'll! I am doing it. I've been planning and purchasing since I made up in my mind I was going to complete this One Room Challenge. If you follow me on any of my social media platforms then you know that I'm transforming our dining room into a sitting room. Let's talk about what the One Room Challenge is first.

WHAT IS ONE ROOM CHALLENGE?

ORC was created by Linda Weinstein in 2011 to assist with completing a room. She asked other friends join her with finishing a project within a certain timeframe, for a sense of camaraderie. Over the years, ORC has grown tremendously; for those that register or just complete the challenge via social media.

WHY AM I DOING THE ORC?

So here's a little story as to why I'm changing my dining room to a sitting room...

It's simple! We don't use it as a dining room. We haven't used our dining room in years, as a matter of fact my mom and dad were still living. While laying in the bed one night the hubby said why not change the dining room to a sitting room. We lost some seating when I revamped the living room and we entertain a lot. The next day I woke up with all types of ideas of what and how to accomplish this.

When I pictured this space in my mind, it is speakeasy meets boho reading nook in 2024. I know, I know that's a lot! But I want this room to be a lot. I've never been one to say this about a room, but I want someone to walk in and not know where their eye should go first. So here's a mood board of what this fusion looks like.

SAY GOODBYE TO THE DINING ROOM?

This is what the dining room has looked like for the past 4 years. It's been a beautiful collection of all the things that dining rooms are supposed to be, yet we don't eat in here!

SO WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THIS ROOM?

So shifting this room over isn't going to be the hard part, the hard part is I'm my worst client. I want to do all the things. But know that I have someone in my household that reminds me accountable with spending.

The main changes for this room:

  • Removing the dining room table and chairs. Replace with coffee table and accent chairs.

  • Removing old furniture

  • Adding wallpaper, adding another accent wall and painting of walls (possibly)

  • Adding a "built-in" with Ikea cabinets

  • Adding door to open entry into office

  • Updating hardware on doors

I always go with the flow on projects in our house, so doing this puts me on a time limit that I have to stick with. I hope you all will join me along for the ride on this new journey!

Can't wait to see what you do with this room! I'm my own worst client too. It's so hard to pick one direction when we see all the things!

Isn’t it the hardest thing to do. I want to do everything I’ve seen and try it. Thanks. Are you participating in the challenge as well?
